Route 66, from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California was build under Federal Aid Act becoming one of the largest public works projects in the history. New Route 66 opened up portions of America not previously accessible by modern toad system. Route 66 helped to create a redistribution of America population during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl years. This migration to the west was captured by John Steinbeck in his classic story, "The Grapes of Wrath"
